For us, sustainability means acting with awareness: in our daily hotel operations, in the selection of our partners and products, and in our use of resources.
We are committed to regional sourcing, energy efficiency, and fair partnerships, and we want to work together with our guests to help build a future worth living in. We view sustainability not as a passing trend, but as a philosophy that brings together enjoyment, environmental awareness, and social responsibility.

Our regional partners & suppliers
For us, a sustainable breakfast isn’t just about buzzwords—it starts with carefully selecting our partners. That’s why we rely on high-quality products from suppliers who share our values: local sourcing, transparency, animal welfare, and artisanal quality.
This is how we source our game sausage and our fresh ham from Reuter Game Processing Plant as well as Saterland ham. Our selection of cheeses comes from the Backensholzer Hof in North Frisia —a family-run raw milk cheese farm committed to animal welfare, pasture grazing, and sustainable circular economy. Our free-range eggs come from a regional partner, the Norbert Best Farm.
For fresh rolls we work with the local Ewen Bakery . Our tea selection includes both organic and vegan teas from Ronnefeldt as well as the traditional East Frisian tea from Bünting. The selection is complemented by select juices, such as our all-natural apple juice, straight from the Ropers fruit farm in the Altes Land, as well as freshly squeezed orange juice.
As a chocolate hotel, the origin of our chocolate naturally plays a special role. That is why we place great importance on high-quality chocolate with transparent origins and fair supply chains. We are constantly working to improve this area in order to combine enjoyment, quality, and responsibility.
With every decision we make regarding a supplier, we aim to offer products that not only taste great but also make a positive contribution to the environment, animal welfare, and regional economic development.

Fair-trade chocolate that makes a real difference
As a chocolate hotel, the origin of our chocolate is much more than just a matter of taste to us. We want the people who grow cocoa to receive a fair share of the profits and to be able to make a living from their work in the long term.
That is why, when selecting our chocolate partners, we prioritize transparency, sustainability, and fair trade practices. We are particularly impressed by the concept of so-called “Growers Chocolate.” Under this model, a significantly larger portion of the value added remains directly in the countries of origin. The cocoa beans are not only grown but, whenever possible, also processed locally. This creates additional jobs, higher incomes, and long-term prospects for the people in the growing regions.
At the same time, such models help protect valuable ecosystems. After all, rainforests can only be preserved and natural habitats protected if sustainable cocoa farming is economically viable.
With every cup of hot chocolate, every dessert, and every chocolate treat, we aim not only to offer exceptional flavor, but also to contribute to a fairer and more sustainable chocolate industry.

At the Schokoladenhotel Voss, you’ll not only experience moments of chocolatey bliss—you’ll also be staying at a hotel that takes its social responsibility seriously. In February 2025, we were awarded the GreenSign Hotel Certificate and achieved a rating of 76%. This means we meet the demanding criteria for environmental, social, and economic sustainability according to the internationally recognized GSTC standard.
